5a. Listen to the story

Danny's face was aching. In fact, it had been aching for the past ten minutes. Ever since his Dad got home, sat Danny and his Mum down at the kitchen table, and had told them their next posting was to Germany.

"Germany? That's... amazing! It's... abroad!"

Danny had never been abroad before. He was so excited, he couldn't stop smiling. That's why his face was aching so much.

Dad had brought home with him a welcome pack with information about their destination, Osnabruck. Danny had a look through the Derby School brochure, and saw pictures of football teams, a great computer room, and children enjoying sailing and ski-ing trips. He saw one boy, wearing ski gear and smiling in the mountain sunshine, who looked a bit like him. "I wonder what it's really like at Derby School?" Danny thought to himself.

In the brochure, Danny saw a weblog to visit. He was used to texting and messaging his friends, so Danny thought he'd look at the blog to find out about the school from the pupils' point of view. Danny knew it was usually teachers who wrote school brochures. He'd been to four schools already!

Danny logged on to the weblog, and in the blink of an eye became part of Derby School. Two pupils, Charlie and Tom, had written that very day about the football team's result at an awayday fixture, and the wonderful salad bar at lunchtime.

One month later, Danny's home, playstation, TV and football boots were all packed up ready to move to Osnabruck. Last to be packed was the computer: most days in the month, Danny had been on the Derby School blog, reading about school life and asking his own questions. Tom had tried to answer everything Danny asked.

When Danny arrived at Derby School, he was asked if he'd seen the blog by his buddy, Adam. "Yeah, I looked at it a lot," said Danny. "A boy called Tom helped me find out things."

"Tom's not here today - he's playing at a football tournament," said Adam. "You'll meet him tomorrow."

"I've met him already - on the blog!" joked Danny.

"Well, once I've shown you round school, why don't you log on. You could say what your first day's been like."

"It's been great. I'll do it!" Danny grinned. He realised his face was aching again.
